Executive Management

Bjarne Bergheim has served as our Chief Executive Officer and President and as a member of our board of directors since 2008. Mr. Bergheim was our first employee and previously served as our Chief Operating Officer from 2006 to 2008. Prior to joining us, Mr. Bergheim was a co-founder and a member of the management team of Fjord Ventures, LLC, a life science accelerator located in Laguna Hills, California focused on building and operating companies in the medical device, diagnostic and biopharmaceutical sectors. Previously, Mr. Bergheim was the first employee of 3F Therapeutics, Inc., which was acquired by ATS Medical and later by Medtronic, Inc. Mr. Bergheim received a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Irvine and an M.S. in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology. Mr. Bergheim also studied cardiovascular and biomedical engineering at NTNU, Norway in collaboration with Stanford University and California Institute of Technology.

John Bostjancic has served as our Chief Financial Officer since June of 2024. Mr. Bostjancic served as Chief Financial Officer of Orthofix Medical following its merger with SeaSpine Holdings Corporation from January 2023 until September 2023. Prior to that, Mr. Bostjancic served as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer at SeaSpine since March 2015, and in May 2022 he was appointed to an expanded role of Chief Operating and Financial Officer. Mr. Bostjancic served as acting Chief Financial Officer of the SeaSpine business within Integra Life Sciences Holdings Corporation from 2014 to 2015 and from 2012 to 2014 he was Senior Vice President of Global Supply Chain at Integra.

Mr. Bostjancic’s responsibilities included global planning, kitting, distribution, logistics and customer service in the role, and he led the project team implementing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s “unique device identifier” rule in 2014. From 2008 to 2012, he was Senior Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis at Integra. Since joining Integra in 1999, he held roles of increasing responsibility in the finance organization, including Corporate Controller from 2003 through 2006. Before joining Integra, from 1998 through 1999 Mr. Bostjancic was a manager in the accounting standards team at Merck & Co., Inc., a publicly traded health care company. From 1993 to 1998, he worked in the business assurance organization at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Mr. Bostjancic received his B.S. in Accounting from the College of New Jersey.

John P. McGaugh joined Sonendo in 2023 and serves as the Chief Operations Officer, bringing more than 20 years of manufacturing and supply chain experience in startup and large publicly traded companies. From July 2019 to May 2023, Mr. McGaugh served as a multi-site operational leader for Abbott Vascular. In addition to his experience at Abbott, Mr. McGaugh has held leadership roles at Boston Scientific and American Medical Systems. 

Mr. McGaugh received a B.S. in Marketing from San Francisco State University and an M.B.A. in Operations & Supply Chain Management from Golden Gate University, Ageno School of Business.

Robert (Bob) Guyatt serves as Senior Vice President of Marketing at Sonendo, where he leads brand strategy, professional and consumer marketing, product marketing, demand generation and go-to-market execution for the GentleWave® technology platform. With more than two decades of commercial leadership in the medical technology and dental industries, Bob has helped define Sonendo’s brand architecture, accelerate adoption of the GentleWave System and reshape its commercial model for growth. 

He previously held senior marketing leadership roles at Danaher and Lifecore Biomedical, holds an M.B.A. in Global Marketing from the University of Redlands and completed the one-year Corporate Innovation Program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Kevin W. Yein has served as our Vice President, Product Development since January 2023. Prior to his current role at Sonendo, Mr. Yein served as our Director, Systems Engineering from January 2020. From January 2014 to January 2020, Mr. Yein was the Director, Project/Systems Engineering at a division of L3-Harris, providing power delivery systems to the US Navy. Mr. Yein also worked at Beckman Coulter Inc., a division of Danaher, for over 11 years in various Product Development roles bringing IVD products to market.

Mr. Yein received a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California, Berkeley, an M.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Southern California, and an M.B.A. from the University of Southern California.
